  perl doesnt really define your stile, it merely adapts to however you want to program.
  hmmm i’ve never tried dragonfire either
  i tried the pop-cap framework, cant remember why i stopped….
  it was a pain to get eclipse to work, so i’m not quitting eclipse anytime soon. gotta do more reasearch there must be at least one framework that works with c++ for android. all i want is to avoid java.

  @sabin97 I know Perl very well, its just isn’t my style of programming, I do however use it to subscript in my own programs.
  ‘Things’ like BatteryTech, are not worth it to me. Thats based mainly on my experience with DragonFireSDK.

  try perl, it’s like java in terms of cross-platform but it respects your intellect :D
  i plan to eventually learn lisp, as paul graham tends to recommend everyone.
  what’s keeping me from batterytech is the $250 it costs, and there’s no trial version….so still trying to get feedback from those fortunate enough to have $250 to burn on something unknown.

  i gave java 2 chances. one was on my own, and i detested several design choices sun made. i dont like having to create a thousand objects i’m not gonna directly use just to get the one object i’m gonna use(horrible experience with sockets). i dont like how it talks down to you like you’re dumb or something.
  the other experience was at a professional level, i saw what “tomcat” did to a poor server. when that thing was running the server was pretty much useless :(

  @sabin97 The first one was what I was refering to :)
  When I first saw BatteryTech it was only for iPhone apps and it was a different concept.
  I know C++ and when went into the Android OS I was hoping I could use it to program apps, but I didn’t find anything that would be good for openGL applications. I decided to learn Java, after about 2 weeks of programming I was hooked. Java is by far the best language I know, it can do anything and its great for cross-platform.

  thanks for the reply, but there’s something called ndk for android, it allows for c++. my guess it that android somehow turns it into java so you lose all the performance benefits, but at least you’re not enslaved into java :)
  i’m currently investigating more on something called batterytech, which is supposed to be a c++ framework that allows you to compile into native android(no java), and iphone, windows and apple os. might be worth it

  @sabin97 Android was built in Java, it was done because of the wide range of programming capabilities. I believe you can search you question on Google and you will find an app that you use as a shell, and it will allow you to use its API and converte your, for example C++ code, into Java before the final building process. BUT this will require you to build that app into yours, making yours very large and not easily deployable. Its best to learn/use Java.

  is there a way to use a language other than java(perhaps c++ or even c#) for android?
  i have my eclipse setup working, but i’d much rather use c++ if that were possible…
