The 2010 Hockey World Cup will be the twelfth instalment of the Men’s Hockey World Cup. On November 14, 2007, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced that the championship would be held in India, taking place over two weeks from Feb 28 to March 13, 2010 at New Delhi’s Dhyan Chand National Stadium.[1]

India’s hosting of the event was put in doubt, however, when the FIH reviewed the progress of the Indian Hockey Federation’s “Promoting Indian Hockey” program and India’s preparation for the championship, and warned that “satisfactory progress had not been made in either area”.[2] India was warned it could lose the right to host the World Cup unless satisfactory progress was made.[3] It was confirmed on July 18, 2008 that International Hockey Federation formally awarded the hosting rights to India.[4]

Today, many people rely on computers to do homework, work, and create or store useful information. Therefore, it is important for the information on the computer to be stored and kept properly. It is also extremely important for people on computers to protect their computer from data loss, misuse, and abuse. For example, it is crucial for businesses to keep information they have secure so that hackers can’t access the information. Home users also need to take means to make sure that their credit card numbers are secure when they are participating in online transactions. A computer security risk is any action that could cause lost of information, software, data, processing incompatibilities, or cause damage to computer hardware, a lot of these are planned to do damage. An intentional breach in computer security is known as a computer crime which is slightly different from a cypercrime. A cybercrime is known as illegal acts based on the internet and is one of the FBI’s top priorities. There are several distinct categories for people that cause cybercrimes, and they are refereed as hacker, cracker, cyberterrorist, cyberextortionist, unethical employee, script kiddie and corporate spy. The term hacker was actually known as a good word but now it has a very negative view. A hacker is defined as someone who accesses a computer or computer network unlawfully. They often claim that they do this to find leaks in the security of a network. The term cracker has never been associated with something positive this refers to someone how intentionally access a computer or computer network for evil reasons. It’s basically an evil hacker. They access it with the intent of destroying, or stealing information. Both crackers and hackers are very advanced with network skills. A cyberterrorist is someone who uses a computer network or the internet to destroy computers for political reasons. It’s just like a regular terrorist attack because it requires highly skilled individuals, millions of dollars to implement, and years of planning. The term cyperextortionist is someone who uses emails as an offensive force. They would usually send a company a very threatening email stating that they will release some confidential information, exploit a security leak, or launch an attack that will harm a company’s network. They will request a paid amount to not proceed sort of like black mailing in a since. An unethical employee is an employee that illegally accesses their company’s network for numerous reasons. One could be the money they can get from selling top secret information, or some may be bitter and want revenge. A script kiddie is someone who is like a cracker because they may have the intentions of doing harm, but they usually lack the technical skills. They are usually silly teenagers that use prewritten hacking and cracking programs. A corporate spy has extremely high computer and network skills and is hired to break into a specific computer or computer network to steal or delete data and information. Shady companies hire these type people in a practice known as corporate espionage. They do this to gain an advantage over their competition an illegal practice. Business and home users must do their best to protect or safeguard their computers from security risks. The next part of this article will give some pointers to help protect your computer. However, one must remember that there is no one hundred percent guarantee way to protect your computer so becoming more knowledgeable about them is a must during these days. When you transfer information over a network it has a high security risk compared to information transmitted in a business network because the administrators usually take some extreme measures to help protect against security risks. Over the internet there is no powerful administrator which makes the risk a lot higher. If your not sure if your computer is vulnerable to a computer risk than you can always use some-type of online security service which is a website that checks your computer for email and Internet vulnerabilities. The company will then give some pointers on how to correct these vulnerabilities. The Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center is a place that can do this. The typical network attacks that puts computers at risk includes viruses, worms, spoofing, Trojan horses, and denial of service attacks. Every unprotected computer is vulnerable to a computer virus which is a potentially harming computer program that infects a computer negatively and altering the way the computer operates without the user’s consent. Once the virus is in the computer it can spread throughout infecting other files and potentially damaging the operating system itself. It’s similar to a bacteria virus that infects humans because it gets into the body through small openings and can spread to other parts of the body and can cause some damage. The similarity is, the best way to avoid is preparation. A computer worm is a program that repeatedly copies itself and is very similar to a computer virus. However the difference is that a virus needs o attach itself to an executable file and become a part of it. A computer worm doesn’t need to do that I seems copies to itself and to other networks and eats up a lot of bandwidth. A Trojan Horse named after the famous Greek myth and is used to describe a program that secretly hides and actually looks like a legitimate program but is a fake. A certain action usually triggers the Trojan horse, and unlike viruses and worms they don’t replicate itself. Computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses are all classifies as malicious-logic programs which are just programs that deliberately harms a computer. Although these are the common three there are many more variations and it would be almost impossible to list them. You know when a computer is infected by a virus, worm, or Trojan horse if one or more of these acts happen:

Screen shots of weird messages or pictures appear.

You have less available memory then you expected

Music or sounds plays randomly.

Files get corrupted

Programs are files don’t work properly

Unknown files or programs randomly appear

System properties fluctuate

Computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses deliver their payload or instructions through four common ways. One, when an individual runs an infected program so if you download a lot of things you should always scan the files before executing, especially executable files. Second, is when an individual runs an infected program. Third, is when an individual bots a computer with an infected drive, so that’s why it’s important to not leave media files in your computer when you shut it down. Fourth is when it connects an unprotected computer to a network. Today, a very common way that people get a computer virus, worm, or Trojan horse is when they open up an infected file through an email attachment. There are literally thousands of computer malicious logic programs and new one comes out by the numbers so that’s why it’s important to keep up to date with new ones that come out each day. Many websites keep track of this. There is no known method for completely protecting a computer or computer network from computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses, but people can take several precautions to significantly reduce their chances of being infected by one of those malicious programs. Whenever you start a computer you should have no removable media in he drives. This goes for CD, DVD, and floppy disks. When the computer starts up it tries to execute a bot sector on the drives and even if it’s unsuccessful any given various on the bot sector can infect the computer’s hard disk. If you must start the computer for a particular reason, such as the hard disk fails and you are trying to reformat the drive make sure that the disk is not infected.

Airline news.

(1) Mthatha Airport Ready for World Cup.

The R56-million upgrade of the Mthatha airport, in the Eastern Cape, would be completed by May, in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, according to Eastern Cape Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC Ghishma Barry. Local construction companies Tikanedywili Construction, Makole Business Enterprise, the Ludumo/Alamo Project joint venture and Intellect Construction have already started work on the upgrade. The upgrade to the airstrip to include lighting for night flights had been completed. The South AFRICA Civil Aviation Authority has inspected the lighting and the province is now waiting the issuing of a night rating for the airport. The project includes the building of a temporary relocation structure, aterminal building upgrade, civil works and fencing. It formed part of the provinces Blue Skyway aviation strategy, which aimed to improve the potential of the Bhisho and Mthatha airports, as well as to bring new life to rural airstrips within the province.

A R78-million upgrade at the Bhisho airport was completed in August last year. The province is also expecting the Mthatha Airport upgrade to contribute to tourism in the region, particularly during the world cup event. At present the airport is used by Airlink flights from Johannesburg and other small aircraft.

Before the upgrade, the airport had only been operating at 30% of its capacity and the Eastern Cape was eager to link the airport with other larger cities, including Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, in future.

There is need to have an airline between Cape Town and Mthatha via Bhisho. An important goal is to link Port Elizabeth to Mthatha via Bhisho with the service geared for faster movement between these three areas.

With these new developments in South Africa air transport industry you are assured that they are as many airports and airstrip that will be available to accommodate flights into and from South Africa during both night and day.

(2) Boeings 747-8 Freighter Maiden Flights on February 8, 2010 Becomes Successful.

It was indeed a success when Boeing 747-8 Freighter successfully took to the sky for the first time before more than 5,000 employees, customers, suppliers and community leaders. It was a test program for the world’s most efficient freighter. This B747-8 was flown by Chief pilot Mark Feuerstein and Capt Tom Imrich in the flight deck, the newest member of the 747 family took off at 12h39 local time from Paine Field in Everett and landed at Paine Field at 16h18. According to the crew the airplane performed as expected and handled just like a 747-400.

This flight was the first of more than 1,600 flight hours in the test program for the newest member of the Boeing freighter family. The airplane followed a route over Western Washington, where it underwent tests for basic handling qualities and engine performance. The airplane reached a cruising altitude of 17,000 feet (5,181m) and a speed of up to 230knots, or about 264 miles (426km) per hour. Powered by four General Electric GEnx-2B engines, the 747-8 freighter will transition its testing program to Moses Lake, Wash, and Palmdale, Calif, where the other two test airplane will join it in the coming month. According to Mo Yahyavi the program general manager and vice president Boeing Commercial Airplanes this was truly a great day for the Boeing Company and the 747 program. This was achieved through hard work and dedication of the company staff, suppliers and customers. While there is still additional four main-deck pallets and three lower-hold pallets,” The 747 freighter continues the leadership of the 747 freighter families, which carries more than half of the worlds air freight, making it the standard of the air cargo industry” the program general manager and vice president Mo Yahyavi said.

Boeing launched the airplane on November 14, 2005, with firm orders for 18 747-8 Freighters: 10 from Cargolux of Luxembourg and eight from Nippon Cargo Airlines of Japan. All told, Boeing has secured 108 orders for the 747-8, of which 76 are orders for the new freighter. Cargolux,Nippon Cargo Airlines, AirBridge Cargo Airlines, Atlas Air, Cathay PACIFIC Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, Emirates Sky cargo, Guggenheim and Korean  Air all have ordered the 747-8 freighter.

These new aircraft will make the cargo flights cheaper and affordable as it can carry more than half what the other freighters have been carrying.

BUSINESS AVIATION EXHIBITION.

(a) Africa Aviation Exhibition.

These exhibitions was organized by Lynne Browne and Peter Moyanga of Duma Exhibition, managed to pull off their crucial first event with an ultimately small and seemingly quite inaugural African Aviation Exhibition (AAE) which was held at Halfway Houses Gallagher Estate exhibition complex and occupying a single hall, some 45 exhibitors invested in the show.

Whilst the event was originally touted as being predominantly general aviation oriented, as deadline approached the Duma team must have leveraged its long list of industry contacts to get stands signed up. Consequently, the event represented a wide mix of exhibitors ranging from used aircraft sales, companies to a mechanical cherry-picker supplier and everything in between. For exhibitors, these events represent a sizeable marketing budget commitment, not just in square meterage costs but staff and logistics. Its testament to Dumas long experience that a sprinkling of big names and aerospace suppliers supported the event. Whilst none of the bigger general aviation companies were present, including Comair, Execujet, NAC, and PLACO, used aircraft sales were represented by energetic Nico van staden of Aerostratus. Businessure aviation insurance brokers were in attendance along with Comet Aviation Supplies and aircraft sales and security specialists Professional Group. Steven Wrights International Flight Clearances shared a stand with colleagues, Elite Jet and Sennheiser headsets were represented. It was good to see Wonder booms Global Composite Solutions and its CEO, Errol Van Rensburg, who have been making a name for themselves with their STC’d external cargo panniers and integrated reconnaissance belly pods. A number of planned ‘dialogue’ sessions covering safety and security included talks given by Lt General (ret) Des Barker, Professional Aviations Bob Garbett, CAAs Rennie Van Zyl and ACSAs Bongani Maseko, amongst others, appeared poorly subscribed –probably because of limited pre-event publicity. The two largest exhibitors were South African Airways Technical and Netherlands-based Fokker Services. Other overseas companies were Romanian-based aircraft management specialists Jetran Air and Amman-based Jordan Airmotive.Kenyan Airways Cargo were marketing their Nairobi freight hub and RUAG Aerospace both the Donnier 228NG and twin engined Seastar amphibian. The attendance was approximately 500 attendees daily for 3 days.

However ,the first AAE was tremendous networking opportunity for both exhibitors and visitors and as always, first events, which are invariably slow, allow exhibitor staff more time with potential clients to get to know each other and build long lasting relationship.

(b) Alenia Aermacchi at Singapore Air Show 2010

A prototype of Alenia Aermacchis new advanced trainer aircraft the M-346 ‘Master’, in a mimetic livery, was on static display in addition to the daily flight displays at the Singapore Air Show held early February this year. The M-346 reached Singapore after a ferry flight of 6 803 nm from Venegono Superiore.

The M-346 Master –the newest generation Advanced /Lead-In fighter trainer specifically designed to bridge the technological gap with the new generation fighters –is in the short list of the Republic of Singapore Air Force in the Fighter Wings Course (FWC) .In this programme Alenia Aermacchi is teamed with ST Aerospace and Boeing.

The partnership is a combination of the major manufacturers in the industry: Aermacchi has a strong reputation of being a leading designer and builder of advanced jet trainers. Boeing is a world leader in the aviation industry, delivering world class ground based training systems while ST Aerospace is RAFis long term partner in its technological development and growth’s Aerospace offers comprehensive maintenance and engineering a capabilities for RSAFs needs.

The integrated training solution that the companies are offering the RSAF takes into account RSAFs 3G needs, in particular as it is it is based on years of first-hand knowledge from ST Aerospace’s support of RSAF.The M-346 is a technologically advanced jet trainer and is a newly developed aircraft that not only meets RSAFs requirements , but will provide sustained quality training for RSAF into the future as it fully meets the Advanced European Joint Pilot Training (AEJPT-EURO-Training) Preliminary requirements, countries involved in the ARJPT program include Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Finland,Sweden, and Austria.

In November 2009 the Italian Air Force signed a contract for the supply of the first batch of six M-346, including also simulators and integrated logistic supports, to fulfill the advanced/lead-in fighter training requirements for pilots that will fly its future generation combat aircraft. This contract forms part of a broader agreement to supply a total of 15 M-136 and related support.

In February 2009, the M-346 was selected by the United Arab Emirates for their new training air fleet and negotiations are at last stage for the acquisition of a complete Integrated Training Solution Comprehensive of 48 M-346.

The world of aviation is developing very fast considering the new technological advancement, and new aircrafts are being introduced in the market which are low consumption, long range and with extra capacity which will make it cheaper for cost par person or per kilo for cargo.

Let’s face it for many being on the computer is hassle-full. Being on the computer isn’t fun and productive any more.

Whether your home or business computers are online or offline over time they seem to slow down and many times crash. Being on the computer isn’t fun and productive any more. What is it that

causes these problems?

It’s my experience that the average individual knows a lot about his/her chosen field and very little about computer repair services and protecting information stored on a home or business computer.

Most of us are looking for a simple easy way to work or play on our computer. Unfortunately, computers have become complicated, necessary tools. Yet, it seems, several months after purchasing a computer it begins to bog down and run slower. You might experience mysterious freeze ups and crashes. Once this problem turns into a nuisance, generally, the computer is taken into a computer repair service shop where it will be out of commission for a week or so and a few hundred dollars spent to clean it up.

Most people don’t understand the relationship between a slow running computer and cyber-crime. Yet, the relationship is huge. There is a huge need to develop safe computer practices and rely on

an emerging computer industry called “Personal Computer Services.”

One of the ways I like to describe computer safe practices is by comparing it to safe dental practices. We are encouraged to develop an everyday practice of flossing and cleaning teeth, right? We do this to keep the teeth clean and avoid dental problems like infection and tooth decay in the future. In other words we do this to avoid dental hassles. We want a hassle-free dental experience.

Now, when you compare best dental practices to keeping your computer running like new, you need to implement similar measures. Only this time instead of brushing and flossing you have to develop safe computer practices including purchasing the computer repair service money can buy. On top of that, you’ll also need to set up a safe practices guideline for everyone in your family.

A slow running computer or a computer that crashes frequently may be a sign of Malware (Trojans, viruses, worms, and other malicious code) on your computer. These hacker tools not only can be used to steal sensitive information from your computer they slow your computer down or even cause computer crashes. Unfortunately, traditional over-the-counter computer protection products don’t keep up with this growing problem. If they did would we continue to have these problems?

Over the last three years there’s been a huge shift from curious hackers to professional hackers creating devious methods to steal proprietary information from computers like yours. This evolving threat is costing individuals and businesses tens of billions of dollars every year. V. McNiven, an advisor to the U.S Department of treasury has stated, “The proceeds from cyber-crime are now greater than the sale of illegal drugs.

These evil hackers continue to find more devious ways of stealing financial and proprietary information. It is important that every individual, family and business have a computer repair service plan in place to protect themselves from these cyber terrorists.

You might be surprised to learn that computers that don’t go online are vulnerable through file sharing from infected flash drives, cds and floppies. These devices, when infected, can install scrambling software or logic bomb software that opens up the possibility of extortion to get your proprietary information back.

A 2007 PC Magazine survey of 42,000 PCs worldwide released last September showed the top speed killers. The problems included:

· Over 52 percent of the PCs surveyed were clogged up with spyware

· Over 60 percent of the PCs surveyed had un-optimized Internet settings slowing the Internet down and even signaling that spyware and other malware have secretly stolen portions of your bandwidth to run on your PC.

· Surveyed computers also contained an average of twelve serious registry problems per unit that may have been caused by spyware and other malware.

Incredible, many of these computers are supposedly protected by the over-the-counter products that aren’t doing what they promise to do. So how can individuals and small businesses protect against identity theft, fraud and extortion? How can they get their computers back to running like new again?

Here are six crucial steps to protecting your computer and making it fun and productive again:

1. Keep your computers patched. Microsoft has automatic patch updates. Make sure are signed up to receive them.

2. Use professional enterprise grade anti-virus and anti-spyware at the email and web gateways. Install a professional grade by-directional firewall to guard against backdoor threats.

3. Use sender-authentication technologies, such as Sender Policy Framework (SPF) to make phishing far more difficult since – In theory – phishers will only be able to send their spam from “unapproved” domains.

4. Develop and enforce a password policy. This will make passwords difficult to be guessed. Use a different password for each situation. Make sure these passwords are changed frequently. If you use one password for every web site, for example, and a phisher manages to steal it, all of your online activity is at risk. Sophos, an enterprise grade Internet Security Company, recently conducted a business poll and discovered 41 percent of the respondents were using the same password for all web sites.

5. Keep an eye on the advice from organizations promoting safe computing. Many of their web sites will list the latest threats, and give advice on how to protect your home and business against them.

6. Always report suspicious activity.

Just as important, find a computer repair service that offers “Personal Computer Services.” Your personal computer service should include online repair at no additional cost. The end result: hassle-free computing making being on the computer fun and productive again. With the right computer repair service, using computers at home and at work should be hassle-free allowing you to focus more on your home and business activities.
