Argentina made heavy weather of their qualification in their tough South America World Cup group. The two-time World Cup winners needed a late Mario Bolatti’s late goal to beat Uruguay in their last group game to qualify for South Africa. National coach Diego Maradona has been criticised for his selections and tactics but he has delivered what he has promised – sending Argentina to the World Cup.

It would be unconceivable to see Argentina miss the world’s most watched sporting tournament. Not when they have an array of world-class talent in their squad. Lionel Messi, the current Ballon d’Or holder, Sergio Agureo (Maradona’s son-in-law), Carlos Tevez, Maxi Rodríguez, Javier Zanetti, Javier Mascherano and old time favourites Martin Palermo and Juan Sebastian Veron.

Overall record at finals: Played 65, Won 33, Drawn 13, Lost 19.

Best performance: Winners in 1978 and 1986.

Most appearances at finals: Diego Maradona (1982, 1986, 1990, 1994) – 21.

Most goals at finals: Gabriel Batistuta (1994, 1998, 2002) – 9.

World Cup high: Diego Maradona scoring a thrilling solo goal against England in the quarter-finals at the Mexico 86 World Cup.

World Cup low: Losing 6-1 against Czechoslovakia in Sweden 58.

World Cup legend: Diego Maradona. He scored five goals and was the indisputable star of the Mexico 86 tournament.

The story so far: In 1930, Argentina reached the first World Cup final, which ended in a victory for Uruguay, the tournament hosts. The Argentine national team have also topped the football world twice. In 1978, playing at home, the squad coached by Cesar Menotti and led by Mario Kempes defeated Holland in extra-time to clinch their first World Cup.

Eight years later, Diego Maradona played at his absolute peak and took Carlos Bilardo’s team to the title in Mexico after defeating Germany in the final. Argentina also reached the final in 1990, when Germany avenged their loss at Aztec Stadium four years earlier and defeated Argentina 1-0 in Rome.

Argentina have failed to qualify only once, after being defeated in the qualifiers in 1970. They have refused to participate in three other World Cups for political reasons but since 1974 they have played in every World Cup, and they have been eliminated in the first round only once, in 2002.

Qualification: The road to South Africa was filled with pitfalls for the two-time champions. Argentina only qualified following the very last game of the tournament, after defeating Uruguay 1-0 in Montevideo, where they had not won since 1976. After their defeat against Chile in the tenth game, coach Alfio Basile quit and Diego Maradona took over.

Under his watch, the team failed to meet expectations and they were pummelled 6-1 by Bolivia in La Paz. However, history weighed heavier in the last two games, and victories against Peru and Uruguay were enough to reach the World Cup. Many people in Argentina dream about repeating the epic 1986 campaign in which the team made it to the World Cup after a turbulent qualifying campaign and went on to become world champions.

Qualifying record: P18, W8, D4, L6, F23, A20, Pts28.

Most appearances: Lionel Messi (18).

Top goalscorers: Sergio Agüero, Lionel Messi, Juan Román Riquelme (4).

Chances:
Qualification was a bumpy ride in the extreme and included a 6-1 hammering by Bolivia, but if Maradona can get the balance right between motivator and tactician then Argentina are equipped to reach the semi-finals, or even win it.

1.  Go Easy On The Display Settings
It is very easy to get carried away with a wide range of visual options.  While you might things that this makes your pc look good – it will also impact on the performance of your computer.  If you get rid of some of those display options you will enjoy a computer that is faster and more reliable.

So how do you fix a slow computer by changing the visual display settings?

Find the control panel on your computer and click the system option.  Go to the advanced tab.  In the performance tab click on the settings.  OK now you will see a wide range of options that can be selected.  I would remove all and only leave the following as selected items.  Show shadows under menus, Show shadows under mouse pointer,  Show translucent selection rectangle, Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop, Use visual styles on windows and buttons

Try out these different options and work out what is best for you.  The main thing is to make sure you do not have too many options as it will make your computer slower.

2.  Remove File Indexing
You may not have heard of file indexing before – but enabling this option on your computer will slow your computers performance markedly.  It uses a large volume of the RAM (Memory) on your computer.  So – we suggest you disable this service and you will notice the difference immediately.
If you go to ‘my computer’ and right click the C: drive.  Then select properties and unselect the “allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching”.  Then apply this change to C: subfolders and files and click OK

3.  Get Rid of Your Desktop Picture
I know you quite like the picture of aunt Dorothy that you have on your computer desktop background!  However, if you get rid of this image and restore default settings for your background you will improve your computer speed and performance.  You are using a lot of memory to have this on your computer background.

4.  Clean Your Computer Registry
Your computer registry is the powerhouse of your computer.  If your windows registry is not free from damage and well organized, your system will become unbelievably slow and is likely to start  freezing, and crashing.  You should regularly clean your windows registry with and effective registry cleaning product to ensure that you computer is running fast and your registry is performing optimally.  Visit www.fixaslowcomputer.com for details on top rated registry products and to perform a free scan of your computer registry to see if it is running at peak performance.

5. Clear your computers ‘prefetch’ folder
What is ‘pre-fetching’?  Well – this actually refers to when your computer will pre-load frequently loaded applications and data to ensure that your programmes start running faster than without prefetching.  However, after you have used your computer for a period of time it will keep loading some stuff that is no longer necessary.  You should look to regularly empty this prefetch folder to help your slow computer and ongoing pc performance.  GO to the windows folder under your lodal hard disk X:\windows\prefetch (X is the drive where you have Windows installed) or %systemroot%\prefetch

6. How many fonts do you really need?
Another tip on how to fix a slow computer is to ensure that you only have the fonts that you are actually going to use loaded.  Additional fonts will use memory and computer power – especially TrueType fonts.  Get rid of some of these by going to your control panel, visiting the fonts folder and moving the ones you do not require to a temp directory.  That way you can bring them back if need be !

Team profile for this match:
France
Group A
With the dust settled in Les Bleus’ controversial qualification for the 2010 World Cup Finals, Raymond Domenech can finally concentrate fully on preparing for the world’s most elite football tournament.France struggled against the likes of Romania and the Faroe Islands in qualification, and narrowly edged out a resilient Republic of Ireland side to get to the ‘big dance’.To be talked in the same breath as Spain, Italy and England, Thierry Henry will have to produce a string of world class performance for France to outscore opponents and win.

Chances for France to win world cup 2010:
Struggled through qualifying and secured their place thanks to Thierry Henry’s handball in the play-off victory against the Republic of Ireland. Coach Domenech continues to make mystifying tactical decisions and it remains to be seen whether the undoubted strength of France’s squad is enough to overcome that handicap. On the face of it. the last 16 might be their limit this time.

Uruguay
Group A
Uruguay were the last country to qualify for South Africa after they recorded a controversial 2-1 aggregate victory over Costa Rica. Uruguay, who were the first-ever hosts of the World Cup, had finished fifth in their South America group to set up a play-off tie with the fourth-placed CONCACAF country. The two-time World Cup champions will be aiming to give a good account of themselves after missing out on the last World Cup. They will be depending on the firepower of Ajax striker Luis Suarez as well as the veteran Diego Forlan who is one of the most capped player at 60.

Chances for Uruguay to win world cup 2010:
World Cup play-off regulars in recent years, Uruguay will be tough opponents for anyone and will be targeting a place in the last 16, though a revitalised Mexico and group ‘big guns’ France will be favourites to progress.

Nowadays desktops and laptops are much more durable and dependable that they were just five years ago. Therefore, buying a used or refurbished computer is becoming more of a trend.

Suppliers replace their computers on average every 6 months and companies frequently upgrade their equipment. Buying one of these used or refurbished computers can save you a lot of money while still using a quite up to date technology. This is even more relevant if you are not a heavy user (i.e. most of your time on a computer is spent online, you may use a few standard applications once in a while). Even modestly priced computers will more than suffice for these types of demand.

Thinking about buying a used or refurbished desktop or laptop?

Buying a computer is not at all an easy job, one has look get detailed information of the available computers of good and reputed brands. One must take into consideration the size, color, configurations, features etc… While your computer should correspond to your personality and lifestyle, you should always keep in mind the reputation of the brand in the market. Brand counts a lot; you can render good service by the manufacturer if your computer is damaged.

Important handy Tips before buying a computer…

* Verify if the brand is reputed and always buy a good reputed brand. Read about customer service experience for that specific computer issues.

* Check the warranty/guarantee of the computer (seek out computers which still have warranty/guarantee remaining)

* Compare the price of the new model in the market with what price your buying your used computer, try to get the best bargain. i.e. a two year old computer should not be bought for more than half of its original price.

* Check if the computer is outdated (if out of production it is difficult to get spare parts)

* Is the operating system current (Windows Vista/Windows Xp). Earlier versions probably run slower (windows 2000) and would not be advisable unless your needs are limited (i.e. web surfing, Word…). In any event, stay away with computers running on Windows 98 (granted you don’t find many anymore). Also be aware of Windows Vista. Many users are reverting back to XP and that is even more obvious in the corporate world. Why? Vista looks nice but doesn’t bring many technical improvements; therefore IT managers are not willing to implement something new when what they have works just fine. Some domestic users just don’t like the new way of navigation within the Vista Operating System.

* Check if the configuration of the computer you are buying is good.

* Check the speed of the processor. If possible start the computer and see how long it takes to fully turn on. If its slow just turning on, imagine the lack of speed once you start adding software..

Additional Tips for laptops

* Is the battery life good? (search for the computers with a very good battery backup).

* Check for the screen size of the computer your buying and see to it that it is not exceeding the Normal (normally the screen size should be between 15-17). Less than that generally translates in older computers and increases the chance of age failure. Once the screen breaks, you are often better of changing the whole computer.

* Review the connectivity of the computer (Network, USB, Video, Audio…) look to it that it has a good connectivity including wireless.

* Check out the weight. Ensure the computer is light enough for you to carry.

Where to buy used computers:

* Online auctions. Pro: Often offer the best prices. Cons: Cannot validate the accuracy of the described item. No warranty. Tip 1: Some companies will offer warranty for up to two years, the cost is about 12% to 18% of the purchase price. Tip2: Buy from sellers with great feedback, do not hesitate to contact the seller with questions prior to bidding.

* Online marketplaces: Pro: Set prices and quantities – Sometime warranty is available. Cons: Prices can vary a lot, do your homework.

* http://Craiglist.com Contacting sellers on http://Craiglist.com in your local area gives you a chance to meet with the owner and physically test the computer before the purchase

Where to buy refurbished computers:

Refurbished computers can be a great way to buy as they have warranties and are generally sold by manufacturers or companies affiliated with them.

* Manufacturers websites will tell you how to buy directly from them or from their authorized sellers. Pros: Warranty, established companies. Cons: Prices are higher than regular auctions (you pay more for peace of mind)

Buying a used or refurbished computer can be a great way to save money. If you use some of the advice discussed above you can avoid many pitfalls. One last thing concerning laptops, make sure you have a good bag to protect your computer from a fatal accident. Your bag should be big enough for a 17 inch screen computer as it is rapidly becoming the norm, you will probably change your computer within a few years, the bag you may keep a lot longer.

Good Buy!
